High heat exhaust wrap

I need to wrap stainless flex pipe which is attached to diesel manifold (50 hp Isuzu) wrapping around the back of it to a solid stainless steel dry exhaust pipe exiting the stern. The wrap needs to be impervious as sometimes flex pipe will leak exhaust from bends ... not a lot but a little so need a high temp impervious exhaust wrap. Thank you

Re: High heat exhaust wrap

It should never leak. Look at Thermo Tec exhaust wrap.

Re: High heat exhaust wrap

There's one that is like using plaster of paris with cloth a mechanic used on a boat I had.. Sets up fast and you just wrap it on. I can tell what it is called though. But probably findable on line.
If it needs to flex there's some stuff the hot rodders use that needs to be wrapped and tied with wire. Search that.

AutoZone etc have it. Hot rodders wrap thier headers with it. I used it to wrap the exhaust tube on my diesel heater, two layers. The outside of the wrap barely got warm.

Re: High heat exhaust wrap

If the flex leaks it's time to replace it. Carbon monoxide kills.

A water cooled diesel exhaust does not get very hot.
Rock wool home insulation will work fine. You can wrap this with a variety of flex tape materials or sections of SS or alum. stove/duct pipe to hold it in place.
I have even seen rock wool used on oil stove chimneys.

Google marine diesel exhaust wrap.

Re: High heat exhaust wrap

There are wide fiberglass tapes for wrapping exhausts, though I don't know about dry ones.
Traditionally, it was asbestos tape and white lead paste for steam pipes, but I think those days are gone....

Re: High heat exhaust wrap

Contacted these folks.... They said:

Thank you for contacting us with your question.

To wrap your exhaust we would recommend our Exhaust Wrap: https://www.thermotec.com/products/category/exhaust-insulating
Any of our exhaust wraps would work. I can not say that our wrap is a “sealed, impermeable wrap” though. Our Exhaust wrap is a woven material that is designed to contain heat in an exhaust pipe, not gases. Since this is a woven material it may still leak exhaust gases.

I hope this helps to answer your question. If you have any other questions, please let us know. We are happy to help!
