Hood Stowway removal

I was hoping to get some advice on removing the gooseneck from 42 Little Harbor. The motor died and the unit needs servicing. I can see at least 5 screws of either side of gooseneck along with what looks like a bead of silicon. I wondering what to expect when removing it. Does it slip out after screws are removed and the seal is broken or is there more to it? The boom has already been removed as well as the main sail. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Those appear to be through bolts, side to side, in which case I'd expect to see self locking nuts on the other side. That would make sense, because the shear force on them would be considerable. The silicone is also reasonable, given the potential for corrosion where the stainless steel bolts go through the aluminum mast. I would not expect to find screws in this mounting.

They are screws. I have the same drive , and have rebuilt 3 times over 35 years.
Water gets past the o-ring and into the motor.

Can you tell me how hard it to remove the unit after the screws are removed?

To answer my own question, easy to remove. Remove the screwa. Give it a little tug to break the silicone seal and out it comes. Just need to disconnect the two wires to the control box.

Sorry I’m slow to reply. Either drop the boom or support the aft end and hang the mast end on a spare halyard. Support the drive on another halyard and remove the electrical . It’s a pretty simple mechanism. The issue is the o-ring that’s supposed to keep water out of the motor. The last time , I just disassemble the motor, dried the brushes and other parts. Replaced the o-ring . Tested it before reassembling.
DB Electrical in Kingsport TN. has motor I believe will work. They are cheap. I’m going to buy one . There’s got to be a replacement. I tried Hood and other marine sources years ago. Other parts of the drive just need cleaning and grease. Let us know what you do.
