You do not need a rubber wet suit, but you should be covered from head to foot with something. I have an old hood that comes down over my shoulders. Then I put on what I call yoga stuff that makes me look like I am one of the Village People, but keeps all of the creepy crawlers off my skin and out of places on my body I don't want them to be. After I am finished (and I agree do half the boat one day and half the boat the next day) I jump off the boat a couple of times to get all the shrimp monkeys off my protective clothing. Since my boat only draws 3'5" I am lucky to be able to anchor in shallow water and stand on the bottom for much of the job. But I can also stay under water with the hookah to do the keel and rudder.

Re: Hookah DIY Lesson

Get a lycra hood for warmer waters, still helps to keep the critters out of your hair and ears but doesn't heat you up like a wetsuit hood does.

New total is closer to $1100 all in but I use the batteries for cordless fans, vacuum, and power tools if the weight isn't an issue. I even have a USB adapter that fits on any of the Ridgid 18v batteries. The air compressor is used to unclog lines, etc. If I was buying from scratch I might buy the California Air Tools one, as it is quieter and stronger. Of course, with my setup, I can take it in the dinghy.

I originally bought cheaper orange plastic suction cup, but it broke fairly quickly. I have upgraded to the one listed below, it's anodized aluminum so I hoping it will last much longer.

Brownie's Third Lung Hookah Second Stage Regulator With 40 Inch Hose Hookah Diving $120
