How do you know if there is a barrier coat?

I am sanding my hull in preparation for adding an epoxy barrier tire coat followed by ablative paint. The boat is to years old and this is the first time redoing the paint. With a Festool RO 150 and 80 grit, it doesn't take much effort to reveal white underneath the gray paint, though I can see it will be time consuming 50 ft catamaran)

There is supposed to be an epoxy barrier coat, but how do I know? Here is a picture of the layers being revealed

I confirmed it was a silver color.. so I was sanding to the gelcoat. This is why you repaint on time.. otherwise you end up having to sand those barnacle disks, and then you have to redo the barrier coat!

Bad luck, but now you'll know for sure when and how the barrier coat was done...the second time! Make a note in the log, so you can refer to it any time, do not trust this to electronic storage, unless you also keep backups. I find hard copy is easier.
