How thin can i sand my teak deck?

Hi guys my teak deck is approximately 6-7mm and in some points 8mm, and it's looking very bad, just cleaning it with some products won't change much, so my only option at this point is to recaulk and then sand.

Do you think I will be able to sand it a little bit without it becoming too thin to the point where it can break?

It used to be that the screws would then stand proud of the deck. On a glued deck with no screws, the problem is that the channels for the new caulk need to be 3 mm deep or the caulk will come out again.

got it, my teak deck fortunately doesn't have any screws and it's made of single boat-long staves, it needs to last till September as I will be replacing it all.

IMO, the deck under the teak would have to flex a lot for thin teak to break.

If you are replacing/removing it in 3 months I would not do anything to it except maybe a good cleaning with Teak Deck Systems cleaner if you want it to look better.

Almost finished removing my teak deck.

To restore teak in bad shape, start with a pressure washer. It will remove the deteriorated layer making the final sanding much easier and less time consuming. After drying for a couple days, apply teak oil. It will look new.

Never use a pressure washer on teak! That is the best way to ruin the wood!

Absolutely. Don't even use a strong hose stream and never scrub with the grain.

He is going to take a chisel to it in 3 months and remove the lot, how will a pressure washer affect its performance for 12 weeks
