how to clean boat Wood interiors

Hi guys so my boat hasn't been fully cleaned in a while in while, and I think the wood interiors need a good clean.

How do you go about cleaning wood in the interiors, mine are of cherry wood and I think it's varnished?

Not much you can do when you have let go so far. Maybe sand it back and paint it?

I'd be very wary of the amount of water you use as you don't want the timber to soak up water and start buckling (as a few of my T & G timbers have) As soon as you have cleaned an area immediately use a dry cloth to remove surface water.

I think this is excellent advice.

Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the luster of your varnished wood. Use a soft cloth for dusting and avoid harsh cleaners that could strip the varnish. A mild soap and water solution works best for deeper cleaning. Remember, wood and water are not the best of friends. Make sure to dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning.

We like to go over the interior wood using Murphy's Oil Soap and water. It is easy to use and smells good (lemony). As Coop suggests, use a dry cloth right afterwards to remove any loosened dirt and to avoid water stains.

We use white vinegar, Kills the mold. Can’t hurt

Plus 1 for Murphys oil soap! Then wipe dry with soft cloth.

Once the wood is nice and clean (we had good luck with vinegar followed by Murphys Oil Soap) we found that Minwax "wipe-on Poly" worked great to help mold and mildew from reoccurring. I suspect the poly helps fill in the pores reducing future mold.
