How to crimp stud on Twist lock fastener

Hi All -

I need to replace a few of these twist lock fasteners. This is the type with a single post (DOTŪ Twist-Lock Barrel Stud)

Sailrite wants $300+ for the die set and tool that would set these. I know I could go with the type that uses 2 buttons to hold it down, but I would really rather go with these.

I'm thinking I could make an adapter that would fit over the twist lock portion and support the base. Then I could use the same tool I use on buttons to crimp the base. Think that will work - or does anyone have a proven way to do this?

I'm looking locally for a place where I can buy a few of these to try this out on.

Try ebay. They have what you may be looking for.

If you have a local canvas shop, have them put these snaps in your cover. The tooling is expensive, and I've not found anything else that works. $20 or 50 to the shop will save you much headache.

I do lots of this kind of work.
