I didn't realize there was a split style? I assumed they all were the type with the solid rubber bushing that you drilled a home in and fed the wire through.

they're all pretty much the same style they're pass through not as if I could just clamp the wire. At least sheet hours of googleng. Can't find any that will allow a 2" clip. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to splice the wires.

Do you mean the wire / harness thickness is 2"?

The termination widths is not relevant with true split designs.

I found
UNI from PFLITSCH
Icotek
Heyco
Ficonet
QVT
SKINTOP
Lapp
RS Pro

Ah ha I think that's the problem I couldn't come up with the name "split type!" That's what I need yes the connector is 2" the wire is small just like the normal vhf mic cord. Now to find something in ss or alu.

I'm looking for Something like this that's split so I can just go sound the cable rather then pass a plug through....

Yes from what you wrote in #16&17 I assumed you'd "got it". That's exactly what they were invented for.

Glad I could help.

Do you actually have the Ram extension yet? It is definitely not 2" in diameter.

How to pass large wire connectors through deck . Or cut and resplice

Personally I think you’re better off splicing. You’re contemplating a Rube Goldberg solution, with risks of water intrusion, simply because you’re apprehensive about some relatively straightforward splicing.

Your helm guard feet have holes in them specifically for passing wire through. Drill holes for the wires, run the wires, and seal it up with caulk. Check it every few years.

If you’ve never spliced wires like this before I appreciate the hesitation but it’s really not brain surgery and if you take the time and do it right you’ll not end up with a water siphon to below decks.

If I missed a development in all the posts I didn’t read, apologies.

The new stainless scanstrut cable clams work well.

I'll go and splice it I guess. Run it through a scanstrut. Thanks

I've twice spliced that cable (two different installations) because of the difficulty of passing the connecter, and it worked out fine.

The wires are fairly tiny (20 or maybe 22 gauge), and among them is a wire with a shield and the shield must be spliced as well.

Indeed, the Standard Horizon Ram mic manual -- link at the end -- actually states as follows:

"The routing cable can be cut and spliced, however care needs to be taken when reconnecting the wires to ensure water integrity. Before cutting the cable you will notice there are the following wires: Yellow, Green, Brown, Purple, Blue, Green, Red*, and Shield*. *The Red and Shield wires are wrapped in foil. Remove the foil, and separate the Red and Shield wires"

Hands down the best systems for such....

https://www.roxtec.com/uk/products/s...-cf-832-frame/

They are not cheap, but a leaky boat can be very expensive. Mine is over 20 years old and has never leaked a drop. Easy to assemble/disassemble too. Over the years I have had mine apart at least a dozen times, reconfigured it several times, re-assembled and its NEVER leaked even a drop.
