How to remove neoprene adhesive used in hatch seals?

I am replacing all my Goiot Neoprene seals (shoutout to Maripro for selling in bulk). Pulling out the old gaskets is easy but removing the old neoprene adhesive is not.

Acetone is aggressive toward the acrylic and it does not really dissolve the glue (not after 6-7 minutes).

What is the best way to proceed? Have 8 to go.

thanks in advance.

GoofOff and scotch bright and plastic scraper... but only on the aluminum frame, not acrylic lenses as you pointed out.

Yes but wear gloves because that stuff really strips the oils out of your skin. I speak from experience.

Will MEK etch acetone?

MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) is simply acetone (methyl methyl ketone) with one additional carbon atom and two more hydrogen atoms. It's hard to tell them apart and their application is similar.

Do you know what adhesive was used? What was recommended to me and included with my new seals was cyanoacrylate (super glue). They make debonder specifically for cyanoacrylate if that is what was used. Google "cyanoacrylate debonder"

I have no idea if it will react with acrylic.

MEK is used to bond plexiglass.

Goiot hatched use CA glue to bond the neoprene to itself but a wet suit adhesive to bond the gasket into the channel.

This, this, and this. A little GoofOff to soak, then scrape with a wood or plastic tool.

Re: How to remove neoprene adhesive used in hatch seals?

Googone did not work but I got another proprietary compound (also based on citrus oils) to soften the adhesive. Slow work (overnight soaking) but results are good. Acetone too volatile for this purpose.
