How to remove water marks from Varnished table

I left the cockpit table out overnight some time ago. It rained overnight, and the rain water was trapped under place mats. This left a discoloration on the varnish. I tried heat gun, this did not remove the marks.

How to remove water stain from varnished tabletop without sanding if possible as it's a thin walnut wood fascia on ply board. See photos.

Thanks in advance for best advise. SV. Skoiern IV

Re: How to remove water markes from Varnished table

If it won't dry out it will have to be re-varnished. Two options: Use a chemical stripper. That's messy, smelly, and exposure my give your eventual offspring, if any, three eyes. It also costs you no wood at all. Second, sand with a random orbit sander. They cut fast with coarse paper and slowly with fine paper, so you can control the process and minimize loss of the wood veneer. Lots of dust to clean up before varnishing. Use polyurethane varnish in either case.

Good luck with it.
