Plastic to keep out the sea? Nope.

Not sure I'll be seeing any ORCA's in my travels and what isn't plastic on these boats.

I think the obvious is stated.

The safer way is to use stainless steel but was concerned about the metals galling over time. I would coat with anti seize or equivalent i.e. Lanocoate.

The safest way would be not to cut a hole in my boat period.... just haven't found anyone small enough to crawl into the area required and wrestle off the hose off the stern throughput.

I used the Beckson screw-in hatches for our kayaks. Haven't leaked yet, and they're about ten years old. Not getting them seated flat all the way around could result in leaks. (See post#13?) These types of 'inspection ports' are used routinely in the watertight tanks of thousands of dinghies.
