Hull damage how bad is it?

We are looking at a nice hunter 38, 2007 overall great condition, but I noticed a small damaged area on the hull above the water line (possible docking mishap), I snapped some pictures and was wondering how bad it can be to fix/or what kind of issue it could represent in the long run..
Also I noticed a very slight demarcation on the keel to hull joint , nothing exceptional but was wondering if anyone ever experienced them on hunters of this generationClick image for larger version

Get a pro to look, that hull damage may not be superficial, the circular rings would have me worried that there could be delamination or dis-bonding to be more precise.
May not be a concern though, but I would want a professional opinion.

On edit, Hunter has an excellent owners group, when I was looking, they told me exactly what to look for, and I found what they told me to look for too.

Not too serious, but it will require a skilled gelcoat/fiberglass tech to make an invisible repair.

That's a pretty good sized repair, that boat hit something pretty hard. Get a solid quote or two for repairs and use that to negotiate down price. Be sure there is no interior damage in that area as well, such as a delaminated bulkhead or the like.

Re: Hull damage how bad is it?

The keel joint looks normal, if there were any watery streaks of rust running down, that would be cause to be concerned. But just a little bottom paint chipping at the joint isn't a problem.

See if you can get a look at the hull repair from the inside or a receipt from the previous owner for the repair. Usually the yard making the repair will have taken photos of the work when it was done and as the work progressed.

If it's superficial, which is what it looks like in the photo, The repair kinda looks like someone tried to use a rough polishing wheel to gring down a deep scratch, then neglected the finishing steps of finer grit and wet sanding to finish the job properly. Maybe afraid he'd cut to deep through the gelcoat. But only so much can be seen via photos. Looks like the job wasn' t finished off properly.

Remember...
The hull may have been cleaned up before you saw it and serious damage freshly covered up .

Circular area most likely a hard impact. A good boat yard should be able to diagnose and give you a quote. Should have been noticable before you made an offer but maybe you didn't have access to that side of the boat. It happens.

Big thing would be to make sure there has been no further delamination from that impact. A good surveyor should be able to sound it out and use a moisture meter to tell you.

Re: Hull damage how bad is it?

I just noticed it recently , the boat was freshly waxed so I guess imperfections were easier to see..
The boat was surveyed last fall and there ate no mentions of this issue in the report, everything checked with the moisture detector is low content except for the rudder which was rated low/medium and the engine mount area at low/medium also. I will try to get a chance to check from the inside
