Your theory sounds perfectly reasonable given that there is that extra component in the older systems. He should certainly start with that.

Yep, they stopped selling the Hynautic system recently. Prior to that, they sold the Hynautic 3-line system alongside the SeaStar and Capilano 2-line systems. Now they only sell the latter 2 (which are basically the same system with different helm pumps). Originally all 3 systems were made by different companies, but mergers and acquisitions brought them together over time.

And they are still selling the Capilano helm pumps. Branded as Capilano. They must have had a ton of them in the warehouse somewhere. Ha ha.

I think at this point the Capilano pumps are the heavier duty line and the Seastar pumps are their standard offering. The Capilano pumps are also variable displacement so you can change your steering ratio on the fly. The Hynautic system was different enough to stand alone, but the others are basically just 2 different helm pumps for the same basic system, so far more commonality from a manufacturing / sales perspective.
