I've looked into larger ones and bushing down and would need to have a female rod of 1" to bush down and the bushing be strong enough -but this would then be too long/large

I would love to re-thread the tie bar... but this is my last option as I would need to cut a hole in the side of the boat - most likely right through the chainplate !! (I'll be checking this weekend)

Maybe above will help. Also send your pic to Ruth or Tim at Klacko in Oakville, they have a huge can do mentality, if they can't help they will know who can - klackospars@bellnet.ca

notiesbob - thanks I've sent them a note!

Re: In Search of Rod Ends

rbrentp -

any information would be greatly appreciated! (will DM you)

I'm wondering if yours are not 9/16-18 Left and Right.. knowing Prout it wouldn't surprise me if things changed boat to boat...

Automoti e suppliers didn't cerry stainless if I remember correctly.

IF that doesn't work let me know and I will dig.

Don't know how they will last in marine environment, but for machinery they are very good... and there is a NAME behind !

Re: In Search of Rod Ends

Jim,

I was begining to doubt myself so yesterday I went to our fastener store with one and it is indeed 9/16. 14mm just won't go beyond 3 threads.

Re: In Search of Rod Ends

Not the cheapest alternative and probably at the large end, but they're used a lot in aircraft service:

Re: In Search of Rod Ends

The pitch of the thread is different from Standard to metric. Maybe go to a machine shop. They usually can source most things. Just a suggestion.

Re: In Search of Rod Ends

I don’t know why you haven’t contacted Summit Racing. They more than likely have what you want, cheaper than any marine supply, have a web-site and toll-free ordering, you can get it in three days. Same with Speedway Racing equipment. They use those things like crazy on race car suspensions and steering.

Unfortunately this joint has 1/2-20 thread... the stud that mounts in the arm is 9/16...and tapered so there is that problem too.

"9/16x18 Stud Thread :: 1/2x20 Rod End Type :: Female Stud Small Taper"

It will be interesting to see if the requisite end can be found.

As noted before, the easiest solution (providing one has, or knows someone who has, the ability to do it) is to take a std thread 1/2-20 rod end, 54.37 at MSC https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/35398429

Drill is out with a 33/64 drill bit, 4.94 at Amacon, https://www.amazon.com/Speed-Steel-S.../dp/B0007Q75HS

And tap them for 9/16-18 with a left and right hand tap, 12.50 at amazon, https://www.amazon.com/16-18-High-Sp.../dp/B005GLJRTS

The OD of the threaded portion of the 1/2-20 end is .75", if having a minimum wall thickness of 3/32" is too scary, the other option is to go to a 5/8" rod end and use an insert, something like this, 8.99, Eldi (though they can probably be found more generically, and cheaply, elsewhere)

Try Princess Auto in Ontario.
I have purchased them at the Sudbury store.
They have a great catalog and will ship your order. I'm not saying they have the size you need, but worth a try. They will also send you a catalog.
