The toilet bowl wax ring is pretty soft, bordering on sticky, at 'room' temperature 70 F / 21 C.

Oatey or Harvey #1 are cheap as chips at the local home improvement stores.
This one is under 2$ US.

Through hull sensors work well... I have a Garmin inside mounted sensor in my non-cored hull 14mm thick.
