Interlux Perfection discontinued...

Does anyone know why Perfection was discontinued? I loved the stuff. I found it really easy to apply to my hull and deck by roller, no tipping required. What did Interlux replace it with?

Re: Interlux Perfection discontinued...

Not sure what they are replacing Perfection with-I've used Perfection quite a bit and it is good-but finicky. If you need an alternative, Epiphanes has a two part urethane that is also great and seems much more durable. I've painted three of my boats-two with Perfection and one with Epiphanes. Epiphanes would be my choice based on appearance and durability.

Once you have spent all the time and effort prepping the boat, just have someone shoot it with awlgrip or sterling. We were very disappointed with the Perfection.

IIRC*, Interlux is offering “Toplac Plus” 1-part, silicone alkyd yacht enamel, as it’s replacement, for the discontinued ‘Perfection’ line of 2-part, polyurethane.

* I may not, so your best bet might be to contact Interlux [Akzon-Nobel]

Of course they are.
Two-part Polyurethane = hot dip galvanizing = expensive.
One-part silicone alkyd= electroplate galvanizing = cheap.

PS; Take a good look around, companies in all sectors are pulling up their britches and tightening up their belts.

Well crap… I was planning to use it for strip and repaint of my hull this winter.

What’s the replacement?

They are not going to offer a 2 part at all anymore?!?!

What’s the best 2 part option now?

Sale to public customers was stopped, because its hardener contains more Isocyanates than allowed to be sold to non professionals in Europe.

It is still available for professionals. Even though it might be just remaining stock.

Two part polyurethane paints with similar formulations will only be available for professional use in Europe.

And...... the hardener goes off even without opening the can and they don't sell it as a separate item. Lots of Perfection Part A's sitting around.

Switch to Epifanes or Awlgrip. I use both and they are great.

Very true, and to force the customer to mix only complete cans they have some paints in their range with a mixing ratio of 7:1. Ridiculous!

Re: Interlux Perfection discontinued...

i've had good luck with Pettit one-part. Easy to use, roll-and-tip.

incidentally, found that my Harbor freight pressure washer blasts the old Perfection off. Easier and cleaner than sanding. Took about three hours both sides on a 41 ft boat. Bare hull doesn't need to be re-sanded.

Re: Interlux Perfection discontinued...

If your old Perfection comes off so easy, I'm doubtful in the preparation which had done before application. I'd be VERY careful with applying onto that surface before applying a new paint job...
