Perhaps a nod back to Marshall is appropriate here.

When we bought Whimsy, the electronics were a mix of old unsupported Garmin chart plotter, a 1st gen orange/black JRC digital radar, and assortment of other instruments.

I decided that since I wanted everything to talk to each other out of the box, I'd have to choose one vendor.

The choice came from a documentary I saw on the US Navy's latest edition of shallow draft hunter-killer subs. Small, fast, and nimble. They do not have radar built in. Instead, when they surface, a sailor carries the radome up the tube and puts it in place. The brand of radar - in stunning color - RayMarine. That sealed the deal for me.

Every purchase was made knowing that it would interface w/ the selected chartplotter (MFD). A C95. Which is now out of production, but still supported. The C95 is totally manual - no touch screen. I can live with that.

The Wheel Pilot was chosen intentionally as the easiest way to get some autopilot help, knowing that I'm not going to go to the S Pacific in this boat. A Gulf passage maybe. Maybe go up to see Frankly. Go to the Bahamas. Or even the Virgins. But that's about it.

This coming winter will start the travels \o/
