Jerry Can Covers

Looking for a source of Jerry Can Covers. Not finding anything. Seems like something that could be a money maker for someone to crank out a bunch of once the pattern is fixed?

Re: Jerry Can Covers

Hi, happy drv. Of course, they're easy to make, just like they are for o/b fuel tanks. They're not too hard to do, even with a palm and sail twine, if you don't have access to a sewing machine. I think Sunbrella is the best fabric to use, but you can even use cheap tarp material, all you want to do is keep the UV off. Both Sunbrella and tarp material can be sewn with a regular sewing machine, don't need anything fancy.

The way I made jug covers was to cut out the top, allowing 1/2" seam allowance, and one long piece, with allowances for a hem and the seam, sew the top on, then close the seam, and put in the hem. You can do it all with a simple basting stitch, using a sailor's palm and a sail needle (small stitches, of course), or on a machine, using either long straight or medium zigzag. We did not make an effort to cover the handle, but this can be done by adding another piece, and use velcro to hold it down.

It isn't hard, but it's the kind of thing you get better at with practice. When I started, I drew the line on the fabric that I wanted to sew on, till sewing straight became easier.

Ann
