Ahh, I see! To me this isn't a swing keel at all,but a centerboard, where the ballast is internal to the hull and the swinging bit is either unballasted or contributes only a minor part of the ballast. A true swing keel has all the ballast incorporated in the swinging bit.

Just a terminology issue...

Cant find where to put a new post so Ill try here. Also about keels. Bought a MacGregor 25. Love the boat but the guy I bought it from said the keel gasket leaks a little and needs to be replaced. Cant find any specs and was wondering if anyone knew what fixing it entails? Its also a swing down keel. Thanks for any help.

The lead portion is fixed, with a hollow section where a 1/2" or 3/4" steel plate is installed with a pivot pin.
