lewmar 44 st maintenance

i've done maintenance on simple single speed winches, but this is my first attempt at a two speed self tailing winch. i've got the parts explosion and a simple explanation but was wondering if there were some serious step by step instructions or even a video available....

Re: lewmar 44 st maintenance

I rehabbed Lewmar Wave Grip 44s from the '80s three years ago and blogged about it here:

The world encompassed: Vintage winches feature pinches

There's a link there to some documentation you might lack.

Tip o' the day is to get a small plastic tub...like "footbath sized"...and do the disassembly in there. If you can confine the innards, you stand less chance of losing a pawl spring or other item.
