Lifeline Stanchion Cap removal?

Hi y’all just a quick question. We are resealing and sanding our teak decks on our 50’ Beneteau. We would like to remove the stanchions and the cap at the base and are not sure how to get the cap off. The stanchion itself comes off after removal of one hex bolt but the cap, or at least the one I tried wouldn’t budge. Any ideas? Or do you have to remove the entire fitting including the nut on the bottom?

As always thanks in advance!

Will

A photo would help!

"the cap at the base" would have a sealant between the "cap" and the deck. If the sealant was Sika 291 (adhesive) you would have to cut it with a multi tool.
