Looking for a part

I would like to make a small table top that fits onto a winch. In the past, I have seen several products that are intended to fit into the winch handle hole and have a "winch bit" on the bottom of them to fit into the winch. A while ago, I saw this "winch bit" part for sale somewhere. It consisted of the bit part with a flange attached to it that had screw holes in it.

I have searched for it unsuccessfully. Does anyone here have a lead?

Yes, I know I could make something from parts of other things but this time I just want the easy way out.

I believe that I saw something similar advertised in the back of a sailing magazine. If you can't find the part your looking for you might use a piece of square stock, though it wouldn't be locking.

Good luck,

Mike

Order a replacement handle that fits the wench you intend to use for the table, remove the handle and drill a couple of holes in it to mount the table to. If ever a time comes that you are far to sea and you have lost your only wench handle you will know where to get one to get you out of a bind.

Most of the winchbits are 5/8" 8 point stars. You can use square also.

One of the drill-winch interfaces is called the Cranker:

The Cranker - a S.S. Sailboat Winch Drill Adapter Bit

Works great for its intended purpose (I have one); cool idea for making a lightweight table...

Cheers,
Steve
