Made on offer on a Meadow Lark

So, I made an offer on a Herreshoff/Vaitses Meadow Lark.

Not L. Francis' original 33' wooden boat, but Alan's 37' fiberglass.

Put down the deposit, waiting for surveys.

And now, naturally, I am reading Ian Scott's "Mudlark's Ghosts", his account of restoring a 1953 wooden Meadow Lark.

From his intro:

Quote:
It is the story of what happens when you say to yourself, 'While I'm at it why don't I ...? 'I might as well do that too', 'I'm never going to do this again so I must do it right', 'Why does everything take so much longer than expected?', and ' Thank God I'm not paying someone else to do this.'
The boats sails as it is, so I'm told (and we'll confirm that, before we close), but it does need some work. But, then, every forty-year-old boat always needs work.

Re: Made on offer on a Meadow Lark

Good for you mate! I respect those that are doing it, buying them. Those that are searching for years for that perfect boat are dead before finding one. Yes, you are absolutely right that every 40 , 50 or 30 year old boat needs work. Some less, some more. Myself I'm working on the 1988 Tayana 42 that need it a ton of work, but i have no regrets. By the time I'm done, she'll be like a brand new boat and the end is near. Make sure you get a good deal on it.
