Well, I just tried barkeepers friend (had some onboard) with an old toothbrush - worked like a charm on the hinges. I’ve not polished them yet, but looks good enough as is.

I’ll try one of the other solutions offered on the bow pulpit, probably the oxalic acid, since I also have some of that onboard from when I cleaned the teak decks... will let everyone know how that works out.

Here is a before and after picture of the hinges, so you can get an idea of what I meant when I said “surface rust”.
