Re: Masking Tape for Barrier Coat

There are some excellent ideas here and I thank everyone for them. I'm considering Delmarrey idea of no masking tape at all until I get to repainting the boot stripe.(Which I hadn't considered, but seems like the simplist idea.) I can bring the 2000e up into the boot stripe without the tape....put on as many coats as I need....then get a good chemical bond with the bottom paint. After all of that then tape the top and bottom of the boot strip....prep only the boot strip area for the boot stripe paint....and then paint the boot stripe....remove the tape while still wet. I think I can follow the proper line when tapeing the bottom of the boot strip and have in the past even been able to get two layers of boot stripe paint on without messing up the stripe as long as the final coat is wet when removing the tape.
