'Mason' on Craigslist for Project

Found a 52' Mason on Craigslist this morning. It is about twice the boat as I am looking for and I am sure it probably demands a far larger refit budget than I have. The ad is fairly ambiguous as to its current state so it could quite easily be a 'free boat never is' scenario. I have no ties to this vessel, and it could very well be sitting on the hard with severe structural damage. Just thought I would throw it out there in case it was something worth pursuing for those with far more skills, knowledge, time and money than myself. It is tagged at $5000 but it appears they are willing to just about give it away for even less than that. From the few pictures she looks like a pretty boat. Let me know what yall think. If this should have been posted somewhere else please feel free to move it.

It doesn't look like any of the Mason's that I've seen. Anyone recognize the boat?

The inmast furling is worth more than 5k, hell you could junk it out and sell part at a time if there are quality parts in it.

The lines do resemble a Mason but not the deck. My guess also is a home built using Mason hull design?

The boat is in "The Saouth"
It could be that "Tha boat was built bah mah son."

May also be a heavily modified Mason. That would make some sense with the claim that she needs deck and interior restoration. Would be way too much project for me.

As the owner of an Al Mason designed Mason 33, I have learned that there are a lot of "knock offs" out there with the Mason name, but not true Mason design/building. I think Al Mason's daughter, Anita, has a website about the whole deal, http://www.a-mason-na.com/
In any event --- we have learned, over years, that all Mason's aren't.
