MD 2040 Volvo Pentax oil pan leak

First I have limited mechanical skills. My oil pan is rusted an needs removed. It it a hard job to disconnect the engine an pull. I am able to easily get a pulley system to it so am more more concerned on getting it disconnected and then back together.

I think that would be a simple job for a mechanic with the right equipment.

I'd hesitate to do it because you'd have to work under it and it could be quite dangerous if something slipped.

if you have enough space lifting the engine by a foot will allow access to the oil pan bolts.
so you would only need to disconnect the coupling and 4 engine mount bolts, suck out oil,if hoses, control cables and wiring loom are long enough to leave connected.

once the pan is removed, get it cleaned up braze on patches then give it a very good paint treatment and replace with new gasket and sealer.

probable cause is a leaky water pump">raw water pump and damage to paint at some time.

Thank you. I intend to replace with a new oil pan. Hadn't thought of just rising a foot or so. I will probably have a hand, advise, from a very good machanic also.

If the boat is in the water and you have a PSS or similar shaft seal be careful of the shaft position as you disconnect it. Not much misalignment and you will have a lot of water coming in.

Thank you for that observaiton. I was going to do it in the water, but the engine is actually securing the sail drive in place. I think I will pay to haul out and reduce the risk.
