Mold Fumigation with Steel Hull? Chlorine Dioxide Gas

I recently acquired a 42' sailboat in need of a ton of TLC. She'll be a quite the project getting her back into cruising shape, but it is something I look forward to doing. Nevertheless, she has a slight mold problem.


The boat has been sitting on the last few years and has had some water intrusion from leaking hatches. As a result mold/mildew/growth has established a good foothold. I expect to have to gut most, if not all, of the interior.


I've been recommended to try using chlorine dioxide gas as a way of fumigating the boat and killing of pretty much anything. The fumigation followed by moisture absorbtion by way of calcium chloride will hopefully hold me over for a few months before I can begin the refit.


With that all said, I'm concerned about the chlorine corroding the steel hull even more than it already is. Has anyone fumigated a steel boat with chlorine dioxide? Did it cause any significant corrosion?
