My Leaky Hatch Boards.

Tired of mopping puddles in the cabin, I decided to replace the ill-fitting hatch boards made by the PO. Now, as soon as I step into the cockpit, a smile comes to my face knowing that I won't find rain water below.

I made the boards from solid mahogany and sprayed on five coats of spar urethane after carving in the name of the boat. Crafting new boards has brought two requests from owners of other vessels in the marina for new boards too. So, before I lay down my chisels and gouges, anyone want some like these?

Steady winds to you!

Did you taper the bottom and tops of each board so that the edges slants away from the interior?
That way the wind won't blow water into your companionway.
Nice job!

Re: My Leaky Hatch Boards.

Sea people,

Thanks for your kind words and compliments, Tayana42, oldragbaggers, and Boatyarddog . The edges are beveled toward the weather, and don't leak a drop... even in gale force rains.

Building another set for you, a64pilot, would be both an honour and a pleasure!
Your choice: Type of wood, font type, with choice of painted or plain lettering, and finish (varnish, urethane, etc.).

Cheers,
