Name this hatch part...

I'm trying to replace some stoppers(??) on the boat but can't seem to find replacement parts online, probably because I don't know what they are called... Can someone please tell me what this is called?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, really not sure, I can't find a brand or part number on anything... They are on a Hatteras if that helps..

The brand on my boat calls the similar part a "handle seat," but that is a translation from French so might not apply to other brands.

I would suggest calling Hatteras Yachts, get the brand name of the hatch, and then going to the website to find the exact part. Heck, you might get lucky and Hatteras might have them in stock.

Re: Name this hatch part...

Thanks for the input, I was hoping to avoid the manufacturer but it looks like that may be my next stop...
Thanks again.

Seems like an ideal candidate for 3D printing.

lol, yeah if I had one ;-)

I think it's called a catch block, at least that's what Lewmar seems to call them, I suppose it's off to the dealer now..

My understanding of the current state of 3D printing is such that the higher-strength polymers associated with creating such a part will be very expensive (i.e. parts that are heavy and use a lot of the plastic string often weigh a lot such that the printed part costs more than you can buy the part pre-made from the store).

Alternatively, an excellent candidate for creating with a little CNC router and some random handle-stock to use as your substrate. The beauty of a CNC router is that you can make your ?handle out of anything else hard on the boat (or your neighbor's ) that won't be missed if cannibalized.

A desktop size CNC router would otherwise prove invaluable piece of kit on a cruising boat operating in austere environments (and could be used to create things for folks as a means of a bit of income).

Re: Name this hatch part...

If you can find piece of "reinforced" nylon the same thickness just take a coping saw and cut your own. If you can't find that, PVC board is sold everywhere. And would probably be just as good. That is,if the only problem is the part that's screwed to the frame. And there's plenty of clearance so you could go thicker.

Re: Name this hatch part...

Those are called "Hatch Dogs" as in dogging down the hatchs. Try Jamestown.

AFAIK, the whole assembly is a "hatch dog". The part the OP is asking about it commonly called a "strike(r) wedge"
