NC Files Cost?

When looking at sailboat plans, I notice there's an extra charge for the NC cutting files. What's a reasonable cost for them? Are there quality differences in NC files, or are they all about the same?

Re: NC Files Cost?

There will only be one price for the NC files for each design, from the designer. If you like the design you pay the price. They will save a lot of time and if building in metal the supplier can cut all the steel or aluminum from them saving even more time.

Re: NC Files Cost?

mitiempo, I appreciate you taking the time to respond, but those are things I already know.

I'm wondering what a reasonable price is for the nc files and whether or not there are quality differences between sets of files, i.e., are one designer's files as good as another's for their own designs?

FWIW, I believe in NC files usefulness to the extent that if the price is too high I'll go to another designer - thus my question. Thanks again.

Re: NC Files Cost?

I think I would pick a design based on the quality of the design and what it embodied in relationship to what I wanted it to be. Neither the price of the plans or the NC files would have much bearing on what design I chose.

Are you looking for a design for aluminum or steel?
