Looks good.
Nows the time to make sure those Wilcox-Crittenden seacocks get all slicked-up and greased.

Re: new motor mounts

See original post and #6,7 and others.

OK.. I set out for a trial and motored 4-5 hrs up to anchor. I shifted to neutral to set anchor and couldn't get it to shift forward. I sailed home and ordered a re-manufactured gearbox. I was sure I burnt out the clutch after all that abuse coming up from Cabo 1200 mi.

I installed the new gearbox and the alignment is way off again to one side. The boxes are the same it shouldn't be that far off. Mechanics are reinstalling the old box to verify that their alignment job was good. They assured me that they aligned the engine and shaft before setting the downbolts. I'm wondering if something else could be going on. On the cruise to Mexico there was very loud creaking and crackling, even worrisome. It was way louder than the usual. Or, could the shaft log installed incorrectly. I don't know. I wonder. It seems like I wouldnt have burnt up my clutch if they had did the job correctly in the first place. I'm not trying to chisel them and bought the rebuilt gear without any question whose fault it was. I paid them $5000 the first time for new mounts, new brackets. and alignment .

Then I paid $3500 to correct their work and now I will probably pay more to finish this work on top of the rebuilt gearbox I bought. OH Well! I'm not a very good money manager.

Re: new motor mounts

I guess that doesnt tell the whole story.. last year I had my v-drive rebuilt by the manufacturer and let the volvo tech service and test the reverse gear. Then I hired the local yard to align the shaft. They advised new motor mounts and I ok'd it. I set sail to Mexico and when I arrived in Cabo "San Lucas. One mount came loose and the alignment was way off. I nursed the boat home stopping at every anchorage to cool the gears and change oil and align the shaft as best I could. The yard reinforced the engine bed stringers and such as in the the first post above #1

I hope you are not thoroughly confused.

Re: new motor mounts

Yard manager analyzed the two gearboxes and determined that the old one has been welded or brazed at the mount flange. I guess thats why the big difference in alignment of the two boxes.. I've had enough.. I told them install the old gearbox and let me go.. I have order a new Beta 16 with Zenith v-drive. Beta guys can't tell me when it will arrive just that it will be a long time(???). I hope it can be done by Christmas.Thats when I plan to go back to Mexico. The old gearbox will be fine for local use. It only is a problem when it get too hot. I don't think I would use it to go back to Mexico, although I would have the rebuilt one as a spare.. I'm tired of fooling with this old beast.

Re: new motor mounts

I had one of those SeaRays during the add the swim platform to LOA trick so my 350 Sundancer was sold as a 370. 4 Drives and 454. Drove me nuts. Spent half two seasons chasing parts. I scrapped them put in 502 blown Hawks. I fixed it got it perfect. Fastest 370 ever then sold it.
Got boring once everything worked if that makes sense.

Re: new motor mounts

I gave up on that old Volvo and am installing a new Beta 16 now. Almost done. I wanted to go back down to Mexico after Christmas. I'm thinking Maybe I should stay here and make a few trips around these Channel Islands to make sure everything is OK. Also I need to get another shoulder replacement. Last year I came back early form La Paz because I couldn't sleep with a bad shoulder. Now the other shoulder is just as bad. We'll see.
The ZF v-drive is strange . The shaft runs all the way thru the gearbox and connects outside the unit where the couplings are. At first I thought they still needed a v-drive. Also I don't know if I will be able to use the manual oil change pump mounted on top under all those hoses. They still have a few days work to do maybe they have plans to remedy that.
