'Oh Joy' Restoration - 12/28/09

Went up to Oh Joy again today with the Grandsons. i managed to pull the chainplate partner after some judicious pounding on the bolts to get them out.

You can see the size of the bolts that hold it in place. What a pain to get out...

The clamp came out, once I had the boys loosen it, with a hammer and pry bar.

Nasty ain't it. to think my upper chainplate was attached to this...

The rest of it looks fairly good.

Aft lower

Upper

Forward lower.

The boys clownin'

and taking a break.

Now I can cut the sawn clamp and laminate it without worrying about bending stresses. This was the piece I was digging for these last four months.

Charlie- how cold is it in Bellingham now? Could you work on a boat in the Marina during the day?

It was 31F this morning and heated up to about 43F. It's supposed to be warmer but rainy for the next week. There were folks working on boats today while I was there.

Yeah a raggedy old wood stove would come in handy right about now...

I'v got one of them you can barrow as well ..better check with the yard first though.

But you'd have to find some pipe and cap.

They had a pipe and such on the building. I'll have to ask the guys what they did with it.

Charlie,
Being a grandfather-----rewarding
Restoring a classic------deeply satisfying
Doing it with grandsons-PRICELESS

Left 74F in Bermuda to come to 32F in NE Atlanta to be with my 2, 7yr old grandsons.
They have both sailed offshore with me in Bluestocking in Bermuda, raildown.
Looking thru Woodenboat mag with them this morning, selecting our Spring project.
Much success, and all the best to you guys and gals in the new year.
