Oil For Perkins Range 4 -124

I have Perkins 124, completely rebuilded by Perkins in 2005, now it has 3691 hours, what kind of oil I should use?

I would use either delo 15w40 or Rotella 15w40, what oil have you been using, synthetic is always better after motor break end but one with that many hours and not knowing the oil type put conventional oil in it. Synthetics can make it burn more with that many hours.

Agree with tjsaye. Another option would be Delvac 15W-40. All are available at WalMart and relatively cheap. I chose Delo for the odd reason that the bottles fit well into the locker where I keep the spare oil. I think they are all good, though if I had to vote for one I would choose the Rotella based on its reputation, and it is also good for my motorcycle so I could purchase just one oil. I think I will switch over to Rotella 15W-40 after I use up my Delo.

I would stick to 30 weight--it tends to leak less in the British engines, and you don't need the lighter grade oils in the tropics.

Ive found that I get a little bit more oil pressure with DELO , about 5 to 8 lbs, then with the Rotella. This is with the perkins in our Colvin, the 120 Lehmans in the Defever, and the 471 Detroit in our new to us boat !! and even in the diesel in my truck gets better pressure with the delo! I don't why but it do !! just my 2 cents ! and it's available everywhere Ive been !
