Re: Old Warhorse in the Shop for a Makeover...

We patched the blisters with cloth and epoxy and filled the divits with epoxy and glass bubble mix. Once we got it completely fair, we rolled on two coats of epoxy followed with four coats of Interlux 2000E. We then rolled the VC-17 Offshore on with special rollers. It was so fair the owner, who races, didn't think it needed burnishing.

CharlieCobra, how do you usually deal with boat stands as you work on the bottom? Do you move them as you work on each layer of you complete all layers and then move them and do the spots?

I would also love to hear how the pros handle the stands as I am going throug that now.

Also, That bottom looks incredible after the grinding out the blisters and the peel. Did you use long boards to sand it? Would really appreciate hearing your process.

This is an incredible job, I'm sure the owner is thrilled!

We do everything around the stands up to the barrier coat, move the stands and get to bottom paint, move them again and finish. Yes, we use torture boards a lot. It's the only way to really get the hull fair.
