Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??

Reg. alcohol, in a squeeze, would the Origo not burn any strong alcohol, such as a cheap vodka or the like?
Apart from Muslim countries that available worldwide, no?

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??

As I understand the Origos, the alcohol will burn off but the water has a tendency of staying in the tanks. Over time, this remaining water accumulates and dillutes whatever alcohol you fill in, reducing the heat produced by the cooker.

I have good experience with placing the tanks on a few hot sunny summer days in the sun to have everything in there evaporate. The cooker seems to perform better again after that treatment.

Now, when you use dilluted alcohol like drinking spirits to start with, you will probably loose performance rather soon.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??

FYI, Origo burners are are sized to create the same amount of heat as a large propane burner so this criticism is not relevant to Origos. Same BTUs.

Also, while propane is common around the world, the hose connections, tank sizes and regulations are different. It does require a trip to shore to the earnest hardware store but if you stock up the boat in cheaper locations that can be minimized.

Propane on the other hand is the world's most common cooking fuel. You can get it anywhere.

Add a 50% increase in morning-time-to-coffee for alcohol (which some people find important) and alcohol just doesn't look very good. I haven't seen a gimballed alcohol cooker in a long time.

That said, I had a wonderful summer with a girl friend on a Catalina 22 with alcohol cooker. Fortunately I am an early riser and could have coffee ready for her when she hauled herself out of bed. She would have drowned me without coffee.

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??

There had been one up on eBay, priced around $1,000. I've been keeping an eye out for a 3000, so it came up in my searches often. Looks like it might've sold, since it's no longer on eBay.

I have a brand new in the box 3000 as well as the pot holders and the gimbal mounts...I would sell it, but not unless I could get a 6000....

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??

Just paid for mine; waiting for the seller to figure out Facebook Pay and get it shipped up to me. I'll have to settle for hunting down the mounts and holders myself.

I wish I had the room to mount the 6000 in the Centaur. Even if I trimmed the galley, it'd be too tight a fit (I measured). I'll have to make a dutch oven work instead.

You can still get the mounts at West Marine, and the pot holders are still on Amazon....

Re: Origo Stoves have been discontinued??

I've seen both up on eBay as well, but they're a bit pricey. Seems to be a bit cheaper when they're included with the stove. .

Current propane stove has a pair of pot holders. Won't know if they fit or not 'til I get the stove.

Good luck with it...I have never fired mine up, but there are some great videos out there about it.

Why yes you can, we have had an Omnia oven for some time now, does bread. Brownies, pizza, casseroles, etc, good unit, and everything is round, so you got that going for you

It's a bit pricey (just a tad...), but I did come across this tonight: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...7125538698652/

Local pickup only, in Maryland.
