Oxidation lines on blue steel hull

Hi there,
Has anyone got any advise on an easy way to prevent/remove oxidation lines on a dark steel hull. Using rubbing compound with orbital polisher but I need to visit chiropractor after each rub down.

If the marks are stains from rust somewhere else, try any diluted acid (a lemon will do) to make the stains soluble in water and then wash the area. If they come from behind the paint, probably you should sand-blast and paint the area, after performing any repairs necessary.

Good luck

Re: Oxidation lines on blue steel hull

The standard rust streak cleaner in America seems to be a dilute phosphoric acid solution sold as OSPHO. I used it all of the time when I owned a steel boat, and it worked real well. With your dark blue hull you might want to try it in an out of the way spot to see if it dulls the paint. I assume you are in Aus. and paint stores would have a similar product. I also used OSPHO on my fiberglass boats to clean up rust weeps from so called stainless steel. Give it a try. It beats buffing. _____Grant.
