Re: Petit Trinidad - should it be scrubbed monthly in FL?

We have Trinidad on our cat in the Fl Keys. We usually do a wipe down with a textured glove every 1-2 weeks. It takes my wife and I less than 10 minutes and catches the barnacles when they are really small and easy to remove. Very fertile waters here.

I would clean the bottom as needed and not by a schedule. No sense in scrubbing the paint off for nothing. It is expensive.

Trinidad is as hard a paint as there is. Super durable. You aren't going to scrub it off. Unless you don't know what you're doing, that is.

Down the pike a bit in Monterey Bay, with water temp range of about 52-60 degF, we get a soft scrub every 2 months, and generally go 2.5-3 yrs before re-coating w/ two coats Trinidad. PropSpeed on the 5-blade prop and shaft has lasted quite well.

In your experience, is this true? I wouldn't mind saving the money, but it seems unlikely given my experience. But I haven't used Trinidad before - maybe it's just that good?

I have used Trinidad sr for years. I’m on my 3rd year on this paint job. Spent the last 2 in the Sea of Cortez and just Jumped to Nuku Hiva, FP. I clean it when it needs it with a 8-10” sheet rock knife.I do not scrape it, but run it across popping the barnacles off. That said i am doing that once every 2-4 months. I meticulously cleaned it before jumping to Nuku Hive and did find something new when I got here. Gooseneck barnacles.about 50-70 pretty fair size. Popped them off with Sheetrock knife. Expect to haul out in Fiji maybe April 2024.

Locally, here in Daytona Beach, it does depend on whether you're in a marina with quiet waters or on the edge of the ICW with a good current flow. The current will produce enhanced growth. In any event, after the first few months four to six week cleanings are desirable.

Depends on which bottom paint is doing the seasoning.

Don't know about the goosenecks but the big Chilean 'Loco' tastes like lobster.

When cleaning the hull the other week I was told that the gooseneck sells for about $40k chilean pesos a kilo. Mine were undersize.. had to throw em back.
