Polishing Stainless Steel Tracks

In preparation for the painting of our decks, we removed the 12-feet long, 1.5-inch wide 316 stainless steel genoa tracks and before we reinstall them I'd like to clean them up. There are no deep scratches but the genoa cars leave their marks every time they're moved. The tracks are too long to be polished using a bench or pedestal buffer and I figure they're going to need a light sanding before I can switch to a cotton or sisal wheel.

How would you tackle this project?

Re: Polishing Stainless Steel Tracks

Use a sanding sponge with your grit of choice wrapped around it, rather than a solid block.

Re: Polishing Stainless Steel Tracks

The easiest & fastest is 2” 3M roloc disc - blue (P400) on a Milwaukee 12v die grinder or if on shore & large enough compressor, an air die grinder.
