Re: Port Screens? Yea or Nay?

I think it's a good decision, Madehn. FYI, they will not keep out no-see-um's (tiny biting sandflies), but if you spray them with 3 month surface spray (pyrethrins), they won't fly through! It's one of those things, if it's a problem, you wash and dry them, and re-spray. Very doable. And way preferable to having one of those 3 inch long cockroaches flying in aboard to startle you in the night!*

*Somewhere between the Marquesas and the Tuamotus, Jim woke me to go on watch, he'd found one, and it escaped him. He might say I was not best pleased. But it was good to know it might startle me.

Ann

PS, some have also got "eyebrow" shields you can incorporate, that allow you to keep them open in the rain, which is sometimes useful. Not trying to spend your money for you, mate, just thinking a little ahead.

It's not just for mosquitos, as there are several other critters keen to join up as crew in the tropics: roaches, sandflies, flies in general, ants, rodents, geckos, swamp wasps, hornets, and the odd snake. Spend the money!

Add Gulf of Mexico to that.

Of course every thing is bigger in Texas. Mosquitoes are so big you don’t need screens to keep them out.

Yup, saw a couple of them hijacking a C-130.

A cabin full of insects on a hot night tells me you should spend the money, but its your call.

We would not be without them.
