PPG ABC 4

I have been using PPG ABC 3 for a decade. Last year, I had a yard repaint the bottom but when they went to buy the PPG ABC 3, The yard could not find the paint. I looked for the paint in my area and also could not find. They put on Seahawk and it is now time to replace. I am not happy with the performance of Sea Hawk even though I went with the highest copper formula they offered.

I just spoke with PPG and they still cannot get ABC 3 but they can get ABC 4. I keep the boat in a high growth area. Has anyone used ABC 4? Has anyone used ABC 3 and now have gone to ABC 4, and if so, what is your experience? TIA

I’ve never even heard of ABC 4! I put a coat of ABC 3 on today as I’m lucky to have enough in my stash

Re: PPG ABC 4

I looked into it 2 years ago when decided to use ABC3.

Basically ABC4 has half the actives of the 3

What do you use today? Is it ablative or hard paint?

Here’s the results of todays work. Second coat will be black.

Hearing ABC 4 has only half the good stuff, I would divert to TotalBoat ablative and a harder formulation if they have that.

Why TotalBoat, did you use it before?
Apparently ABC 4 is aimed at steel and Al boats, hence the less copper content.

I have never used TotalBoat but it’s on my list as the next option after running out of ABC3.

I would use that Spartan paint they sell.
