private boat yard in so cal

so im seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, five years into a two year refit its looking pretty good to splash my boat nov '18. the only thing im going to miss about living on dirt is my garden and this awesome little boatyard ive built, and im thinking someone out there might be considering a long term refit or build and might be interested in taking this over when i leave.

i rent this small funky house on a 1/2 acre lot in san diegos north county area about 10 miles from the beach. ive built a very nice boatyard on the lower end of the property where ive got my 40' cutter project, 2 sheds, large work tables, 12x20 concrete slab, 20x50x12'h awning and 15x40x10h awning. 110/220vac, shop tools and machinery, a 6x16 6-pad steel cradle and im sure some good left over building materials.

the landladies a sweetheart and supports the sailing ideal and id like to leave here knowing a fellow sailor will get some use out of the yard and take care of the house for her . the rent is reasonable for so cal and if you dont mind a roofmate for half of the house you can actually live pretty cheaply while you work on your boat. but im not looking for anyone less than a couple years, and she would write a lease to guarantee it.

posting early to cast a wide net, start planning now for future projects...

Boy if that were up here I'd be VERY tempted to pull my boat out and do a complete re-beautification project. I am sure my wife would be happy to know I can't do that. Good luck in finding a good tenant. That sounds like a fantastic deal for the right person.

yeah im really going to miss it. sooo convenient to have your boat 50 feet out the back door. ive gotten into lamination schedules that go around the clock - hard to do that in a commercial yard. and i understand SDBM isnt long for this world so diy yards are getting to be rare as hens teeth around here.

For the right person that sounds like a dream setup. Your 2 year refit only took 5 years. Think how long it would have taken if you had a 30 min drive every time you wanted to sneak in some boat work time.

Re: private boat yard in so cal

exactly. personally id never attempt a project like this unless i could live next to the boat. between commuting, space rent, set-up and break-down, insurance, theft and general laziness it would never get done. i cant say ive been at this full time, but i make a point of doing SOMETHING every day. even if its just tidying-up, something gets done every day because its right there... looming.

ask your friends and spread the word, someone im sure can take advantage of this...

Call local yacht clubs and let them know they can put a notice on their bulletin boards or put a notice in the Log

EDIT...

should have been clearer in the original posting. this yard will only work for a monohull - 13' max beam and 50' OA. apologies to all you cat builders...

robwilk37:

It sounds like a super deal for the right person. Perhaps pics of the boatyard will spark more interest?

Good luck with the launching!
