Questrus chafing backstay

I have a Questrus radar attachment which is attached to my backstay. I have been told that the Questrus can chafe the backstay and cause a failure of the backstay. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Re: Questrus chafing backstay

It's questus......

And it's actually less chaffy than a furler on the headstay.

Expensive. Does anyone know how reliable they are? I seem to remember Web Chiles doing an article more than a few years back on things that did and did not work. One of them was the Questus but I don't remember what side of the red line it was on.

Re: Questrus chafing backstay

I already have one and to me it has worked well.
I am doing a refit before the World ARC. My rigger advised moving the Questus because he had had a backstay failure due to chafe from a Questus. So my question is: Has anyone heard of backstay chafe from a Questus attachment?

Re: Questrus chafing backstay

I have never head of stay chafe from one.....but anything is possible.

There are several on boats in the marina that don't seem to have any chafe (but they haven't left the marina).

Unless it is installed incorrectly, which I would not put past some folks, there is no way I can see that the Delrin bushing (much softer than the SS) is going to chafe the SS rigging. All it is doing is using the stay for support, the torsion/twist and load are all at the deck fitting. When I removed ours at the end of each season the SS was not even shiny from any movement polishing....
