Raymarine st2000 tiller pilot

I'm going to try and get my teeth into a long delayed upgrade next week to instal a tiller pilot with remote control on my hydrovane.

Just going through the instruction manual and am wondering about wind data. I know the tiller pilot will function without any data as it has an inbuilt compass (and will therefore only steer a heading) but I'm trying to work out if I can also use the remote without data as well?

At some point in the future I will network the wind data, but at the moment that's a whole can of worms Im hoping to avoid....
