I've never bought new sails but its time. Starting with the staysail. The boat is a downeaster32 cruising boat bound for the tropics and possible atlantic crossing. By far not a performance or racer. My staysail will be used in all conditions. Its a cutter with a yankee. I've gotten a bunch of quotes from 900 to 1800. The sailmakers have all Been helpful. I've been quoted for cloth of newport challenge ap, warp dacron,andmarblehead. And I've read the literature. ( must admit its alot to take in). Every material is being reviewed by the manufacturer or the sailmaker so I feel it may be slightly biased. Has anyone an opinion on what material is the longest lasting force full time cruising boat? I'm leaning towards the marblehead sail from a sailmaker out of fl. But I hear the new marblehead isn't the old good stuff? This will be on a furler. Thanks
