Rebedding Teak Scarf Joints

I am currently re-varnishing my teak toe rails and after removing the Cetol, there are a few scarf joints that need attention before resealing. What is the best compound to fill in some of these small voids? Thanks, Rognvald

Re: Rebedding Teak Scarf Joints

If the gap was less than 1/16" I used West Epoxy with teak sanding dust and West Systems 403 filler to lighten the color up. If larger than that I still used the same epoxy mix but splined in teak strips to fill the larger gap.

If you are on Facebook you can see what I did. Scroll down in the posts to around May.

Re: Rebedding Teak Scarf Joints

Thanks, WindRiver and Coop for your replies. I had previously used Elmer's wood glue and found after a while, the glue degraded and caused small voids. I was reluctant to use epoxy since I was concerned about degradation/darkening but after speaking with a West Systems tech, he assured me the Cetol's(stain) UV protectorant would negate those issues. I've redrilled and filled a degraded bung and am working on old scarf joints. Thanks again for your replies. Good luck and safe sailing . . . Rognvald
