Re: Refit/Restoration of 1985 62' Aluminium Yacht

Hi Rich

The boat is still being worked on down in Crosshaven, It's proved quite a difficult project to manage remotely, only because I live in Enniskerry! So my opportunity to pop down and keep an eye on things is severely restricted.

Its a small yard too, I have have found that come March when all the boats on the hard hit the water, no ones interested in a shed project, there's far better money and opportunity to be had servicing the flotilla!

So they only really come back in from the cold @ Oct when all the summer work dries up, to this effect I really only get the boat worked on for a couple of months out of the year over winter, which is hardly ideal and a bit disappointing.

I should have sailed her to a hungrier yard, maybe in Portugal or somewhere like that, which you could actually give a specified list of works to, agree a budget and let them too it.

The yard its in is a funny mix of self employed specialists that have to pay some sort of commission to the yard itself, so its really a mix of works being booked through the yard and then booked with the same individuals directly without the yard being involved, its a strange set up alright.

That combined with the general laid back attitude down there means it's been fairly drawn out. I would really like to see the boat in the water spring 2019, with the hydro thrusters fitted beforehand. Then I can sail it anywhere for final fit out.

There's been a good bit going on, new genset fitted, new wiring, rebuilt main engine, new steering (Jefra direct drive via gearbox as opposed to cable and quadrant) Diesel tanks, cleaned and relined, engine room cleaned and re-insulated, new steering binnacle, new wheel, winches serviced/replaced, sails made and in loft, all stainless rigging swages formed and ready to install, mast repainted and rewired, ready to be re-stepped and final bits of bodywork going on on the top decks.

I Will post some updated pics soon and thanks for taking the time enquire on its update. Here's to getting it afloat in 2019!
