refrigerator not working

on my 2003 Beneteau, the fridge is a Coolmatic, probably same year as the boat.

I turned on the refrigerator switch, I can hear water trickling sound in the evaporator tubes, but even after one hour of running, I don't feel the evaporator board getting cold. what could be the reason?

I would very much like to just replace it with a new compressor kit, but the routing of tubes are hidden behind the icebox , going finally to beneath the oven, where the compressor sits. it's difficult to redo this routing of tubes. so I just want to see if there is any chance that the current old refrigerator is actually working

I'm no refrigerator specialist, but my first thought is that you have leaked out the refrigerant. That's a common failure, in, for example, automobile air conditioning systems. Do you hear the compressor running? If so, it may not have anything to compress.

Re: refrigerator not working

Thanks. It could be the most likely cause. But what perplexes me is that I do hear water trickling sound, suggesting there is cooling agent there.

I didn't pay attention to the compressor spinning noise yet, got to check that.

Re: refrigerator not working

The sound you hear is normal when compressor is running and low on refrigerant do to a leak. If you have a way to read amperage and it is less than 4 amps some amount of refrigerant is lost.
