Remove interior helm

Looking at purchasing a 1991 SeaRay 440 aft cabin which currently has a lower helm. Obviously not everyone would agree with me, but I think this is huge waste of space! My wife and I will be living aboard this vessel ( whichever one we end up buying ) in two or three years when I retire. The space in the salon means a lot more to us than the helm, I would ALWAYS pilot from the bridge, that's why Neptune gave us isinglass! Anyway, the lower helm looks like it could be removed, and replaced with some nice cabinetry, anyone ever had one removed, removed it yourself, or know someone who has?

With today's market, go find what you want with as much done as possible. Keep the todos as minor as possible. Good Luck!

Re: Remove interior helm

When it comes to changes like this, here is my take. Do not make any of these big changes, until you are using the boat as you intended. Cruising for a week on board does not count. You need to try for a period of time that will have some seasonal change -several months at least. Then, if you still feel the same way, make the change.

If you do end up removing it, try to do it in such a way that it can easily be replaced, for resale reasons.

Re: Remove interior helm

Thanks, Chris, I hadn't thought it through that much.... I agree with you, definitely would want to be able to replace it. We've had two boats in the CA delta where this vessel would be....I'm not intimidated be using the bridge helm only at all. Appreciate your reply.
