Removing portlight lens

Greetings,

I have these ancient ports circa 1980. How do I remove to lower handles?

Yes, I googled a bit before posting. Nothing is telling me how to undo bottom knobs. Hinges have nuts, so they should be OK. Notice I don't want to replace the entire porthole assembly, which is in perfect condition, just the glass. Obviously, I want the glass to be completely intact

Re: Removing portlight lens

I can't tell what kind you have from the picture, or how the levers (knobs) are held on, but if there is no obvious way to undo them then likely the inside or outside has a cap that can be pried off, exposing a bolt underneath. Sometimes hard to see if the hardware is high quality. At my age a magnifying glass and a bright light often helps reveal things. If the inside lever clearly has no cap seam then the outside may be one large cap covering the bolt. Try prying gently with a small thin screwdriver, chisel, or even butter knife. If you're going to replace the lens then who cares about scratches.

Re: Removing portlight lens

there is a selftapping screw under the cap in the center of the locking knob.
Lewmar old standard PL, lens could still be available as spare.

The first prize goes to double u. There is indeed a very tightly fit cap on the inside and self-tapping screw under it. Kudos to Lewmar tech support as well who even sent me drawing of how it's all assembled together.
